Etiquette for Visitors to Oak Hill Cemetery

Thank you for your interest in visiting Oak Hill Cemetery. It’s easy to get caught up in the history this cemetery holds, and because of the wide open space and park-like setting, it’s easy to forget that you’re in the final resting place of so many people.

Many of these people are the last of their family line, or the families have moved on to another area of the country and have been long forgotten.

Please try to keep this cemetery a quiet, dignified place. Take care to avoid any inappropriate behavior that would be disrespectful or lead to damage to memorials. Many of these monuments can never be repaired or replaced.

And remember that for each historic story, there are also equally sad stories. There are the stories of tragic accidents, epidemics, exposure to the elements, and violent deaths that tells us what the pioneer families of this community were facing.

We ask for your cooperation as you stroll through the cemetery and share in its history.
